A Fun and Festive Art Project for K-5th Graders
Perfect to brighten your winter days, this project combines creativity with simple learning elements.
What You’ll Make:
Use a simple triangle template to create an A-frame Cabin. Add snowy white paint to the eves and branches to give the art dimension. As a final fun touch, splatter white paint on the art to show falling snow.
Winter A-Frame Cabin Overview
Background Design
We outline some simple trees. Utilizing both pine and tall trees gives the background a bit of depth.
Science Tie-In: Your kids might enjoy a tree comparison study at this point.
Advanced Students: Consider adding a few winter animals to the background.
This is a great place to tie in some winter animal camouflage lessons if you’d like.
When You Paint the Snow
If you’re including a study on winter animals, ask your student if their animals would leave tracks in the snow.
Older Students: Use a slim brush with black paint can add a few tracks.
Cabin, Doors, and Windows
For younger students, this is a great time to dive into shape study.
Splatter the Snow
This is ridiculously charming. Add water to your white paint until it’s the texture of heavy cream. Splatter across the page.
Note: Depending on your kids, this might be best done outside on the lawn. You know your kids best and their ability to contain the mess. With a fastidious student, you can usually keep the overspray down.
